India Information Technology

Overview of Unit

In seventh grade World Geography class we will investigate India and the reasons why they are a popular choice for American outsourcing.  The unit begins with some background knowledge about India’s physical geography and the history of a region.  Specifically students will learn about India’s experience as a former British colony including the events that eventually led to their independence.  The bulk of the unit will concentrate on the various reasons why India has been able to work with American companies to engage in IT business including customer service and software engineering.

Students will work hard to understand the vocabulary terms and concepts presented in the India unit.  They will make use of written text, maps, videos, pictures, audio recordings, lectures, ect. as they seek to answer the essential question which is:

What factors give India a comparative advantage in the Information Technology field?

Unit Assessment:

Students will be assessed throughout the unit by a variety of means including homework assignments, class discussions, quizzes, and eventually a non-traditional performance task summative assessment.  The unit’s culminating task will ask students to consider the essential question and show what they have learned about the topic in the form of a comic strip.  Students will need to gather and synthesize information from the unit as they create characters and their story ideas.
