The students in English class are about halfway through our unit on dystopian fiction. To recap, the students have been reading novels in small groups, called "literature circles". Every few days, the students read one-eighth of the novel and discuss the reading with their groups. Each group is reading a different novel that fits within the genre.
The students have read half of their novels and have been discussing the books in depth. As we continue, the students will be looking at author's style in the novel, as well as looking at the parts of a narrative, such as conflict, and characters.
To wrap-up the unit, the students will be completing an interdisciplinary unit using the movie Wall-E. This movie falls into the dystopian genre and also links well with the Science curriculum (Force and Motion unit).
